A Penny For My Thoughts

about fashion and the profession of modeling in Second Life

TIP OF THE WEEK // cubbi.es

Yesterday I was invited to try on Diaspora, a social network that is still under development and will surely need some bugs fixed. It looks like being very similar to Google+, however it is distributed as open-source and it is indeed open to everyone, including the thousands of people who work/enjoy in a virtual world like Second Life and are not accepted under their avatar’s name in social networks like Facebook and Google+ itself.

I’m sure Diaspora will become soon competitive with Google+. What I would like to bring to your attention is a very simple and amazing application that I fell in love with by using Diaspora: cubbi.es.

This is how cubbi.es work:

- register at cubbi.es website

- hold shift and click any picture you find on the web to save it into your cubbi.es account

How easy is that?

It has become my virtual photobook where I can save tons of photos that inspire me.  I usually share blog posts I like in my Google Reader, or I “like” tumblr posts, but I’ve finally found a way to archive all my likes and be able to go back and see them all any time.

[update] As I got asked by someone, credits and further info are not saved, but I use Google Reader for that. cubbi.es is so good because it is very simple and allows to go through your online archive in a glimpse when all you want to see is images. I suggest this application to all models in Second Life to keep their fashion inspirations in one place.

Cubbi.es can be connected with Diaspora and Dropbox to share your favorite images. I truly hope developers will add more connection services soon!
